Intense Workouts Can Be Short

Jasbina Ahluwalia asks Jackie Warner, author of This is Why You’re Fat (And How to Get Thin Forever): We’re going to go a little bit into that again. I want to jump into the last of the three simple rules that you have in your book. It dovetails with what you’re saying.

It is to live with intensity. Can you tell our listeners about that and how that relates to the whole plan?

Intense Workouts, Live With Intensity

It’s interesting. People who work out with intensity live with intensity.

I can tell how a person behaves out in the world, if they’re an Alpha personality or if they’re not, and how they perform at work by how they start training with me.

Living with intensity means that it’s not how long, it’s how strong.

Let’s say that you don’t have an hour. Many people don’t have an hour a day to work out. Let’s say that you have 20 minutes.

Intense Workouts, Power Cardio

I would much rather you work to intensity. This means that you’re doing non-stop resistance training and cardio. You’re going non-stop with no rests in between.

That’s called power-circuit training. You are burning to the maximum.

You’re still keeping good form but you’re burning in the seven to ten last reps with high repetitions. That’s an intensity.

Intense Workouts: Muscle Burn

It’s that muscle burn. It’s that fatigue that you feel from really going to muscle failure. That’s how I train clients, whether it’s an A-list celebrity client to someone who is 300 pounds overweight.

We go to muscle failure. That’s what I mean by intensity. When you train like that, everything changes in your energy. Everything changes in your nature.

Intense Workouts, New Energy

You start carrying yourself very differently. There is an aggression, a feeling and an energy that comes with it.

Intense dopamine, serotonin and endorphins are released with intense bursts of exercise. You’re getting that release in your brain. That is going to change the way that your mood is throughout the day.

It’s going to elevate you. It’s going to help you sleep better. It will certainly change the exchanges that you have with other human beings. It’s very important to do that.
