Action Before Motivation
Jasbina Ahluwalia asks Heather Hans, author of The Heart of Self-Love: You mentioned the relation between your emotional state and exercise.
I’ve been reading a lot lately about movement and being able to change your emotional state just by moving your body.
I understand that you made a major career transition from being a CPA to a creative healer, author and video producer.
For our listeners who are thinking that the best version of their authentic selves may manifest in doing something different professionally, what advice would you have for people wishing to follow their passion and switch professions?

Action Before Motivation: Heart Wants What It Wants
I get this question a lot. I think, in the end, the heart wants what it wants. People want to do what they love. Overall, I say go for it.
There is no point in being alive to do something you don’t like doing. We all come into the world with gifts, strengths and talents. We are meant to be using them.
Not only do we benefit from doing that, but the world does.
Action Before Motivation: Your Calling
If a person is feeling that calling in their heart to switch professions, it’s the right thing to do.
There will always be challenge and obstacles. Even if you love your work, make that change and you’re doing the work you love, there are still going to be tons of challenges and obstacles.
What an achievement it is to be able to say, “There is nothing else I’d rather be doing than this.”
That gives you the juice to be able to override those challenges and obstacles.
Action Before Motivation: Go For It!
That’s my advice. Go for it. Love it so much that you can and will override those bumps in the road that will inevitably come.
In terms of overriding those obstacles, what are some of your favorite success principles that support someone in doing that?
Heather Hans
I read this the other day and I thought, “This is so true.” This has been true for me and a lot of people.
Action Before Motivation Mantra
Someone was saying that action comes before motivation. I really believe that.
You could wait around forever for the motivation, but what helps you get motivated is to act.
Action Before Motivation: Example
Let’s say in the morning when your alarm goes off, that’s your exercise time.
Not many people feel motivated to wake from their cozy sleep and start exercising. But once you do it, it feels so good. It motivates you to keep going. I would say to act before waiting for motivation.
Action Before Motivation: Dream Big
Set your standards high and believe that your wildest dreams can come true. You have to believe it.
Every person on this planet who has achieved great things for themselves and the world has believed in the impossible.
I love hearing stories about people like Walt Disney, who was told that he didn’t have a big enough imagination to make it in that business. Oprah Winfrey was told that she wasn’t fit for TV. You have to believe.
Action Before Motivation: Believe in Yourself
No one else is going to believe for you. You have to believe in you, even if it sounds wild, out there and impossible.
Work hard. There is just no substitute for working hard. You’ll never find an Olympic athlete who made it there without putting in the hours day after day.
Action Before Motivation with Bumps in the Road
Another thing that I’ve been learning lately is to keep going despite failures and rejection.
There is working hard by putting in the hours but there is a deeper internal work that comes by moving forward despite failures and rejection. That’s a part of being successful.
You are going to have to fail and be rejected many times. The more you can move through that, the more likely it is that you are going to be successful.
